I am Daniel Ebner, a freshman in high school from southern Oregon. I am fifteen years old and have participated in NASP® and other archery programs for the past five years since I was in the fourth grade. I have been very lucky to attend the Oregon State NASP® tournament several times, as well as attending other large archery competitions in Las Vegas and South Dakota. Traveling to tournaments is one of my favorite parts of archery. I enjoy practicing NASP® as part of my PE program as a homeschooled student. When I’m not participating in archery I really enjoy playing pickleball, exercising at a local gym, traveling, camping, fishing, and volunteering at our local hospice thrift store.
Archery is a very beneficial sport for aspects such as physical strength, mental health and socialization. For me personally, the social part of archery is what I have always enjoyed the most. I have met a lot of great people and have always had someone nice to talk to at every tournament I’ve attended. I feel like archery has almost always been a part of my life. My parents got my brother into archery and then I started a few years after him. It has been so fun having my brother enjoy the same sport and hobby as me. Archery has opened up a lot of opportunities for me and many other people I know. Archery is a great way to connect with people and make really great friends.
NASP® is my favorite program in archery to participate in. Every tournament I’ve been to there’s been positive motivation coming from everyone around me. Participating in NASP® practices and tournaments is very motivating for me to keep practicing and improving, and to do better every year I get to be in this program. The program has also helped many students with college because NASP® awards scholarships at certain tournaments. NASP® has given out close to 1.8 million dollars as of Nov 5, 2018. There are so many students who have had success with school archery and students grades 4-12 have achieved great things through this program. The tournaments are also very well organized and offer opportunities to help at booths, or volunteer to help set up and clean up for the competition.
I am so excited to be a NASP® Student Contributor this year! I’m excited to share what I love about archery and hopefully give some helpful tips as well.
