Reagan Trent, June – All year I have been writing about how to improve your shot in some way, this is a little different. I am going to share some of my favorite memories with you. There are so many I could share; this article would turn into a book. Archery made my entire middle school and so far my high school experience better. It is important to remember to have fun and make memories. The memories you make will stay with you forever, so make some good ones while you can.
My earliest memory of archery was practicing with my uncle and cousin. It made me feel so excited that I was able to do something with them that they clearly enjoyed. We were up north at our cabin shooting out back and had so much fun laughing and spending time together. Each year when we would return for our summer family vacation we would try to make some time to head out and practice together. It soon became something I really looked forward to. My cousin and uncle would shoot their longbows while I shot my own bow. After that, we would help him grill burgers and prepare dinner together for all our hard work.
More recently, my friends set up a 3D and bullseye range in their pole barn. We all bring our targets and set them up together. Sometimes we make a bet with each other. Either it is whoever shoots the best gets the last bottle of pop or whoever shoots the best gets some money. There are usually four of us, including me, but one of my friends occasionally brings his younger brother as well. He is part of the elementary school, so he has so much time left to shoot and make some incredible memories. He loves watching us shoot and gives us pointers which are truly helpful. Then, it is our turn to help him. He gets so joyful when we help him, the smile on his face is the best thing to see.
I am so glad that my friend groups are in archery, it makes the experience amazing. I am so fortunate to have been introduced to archery at such a young age. Every year is filled with so much fun and incredible opportunities. Have an awesome summer archers, cannot wait for next year!
