On Friday, October 6, 2023, H.R. 5110, the “Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act,” was signed into law. This legislation clarifies that Federal funds may be used to provide certain weapons or training in the use of weapons within educational instruction or enrichment activities.
The National Archery in the Schools Program would like to thank everyone who played a part in this legislation. For the last several months, there have been many conversations on how to best approach this issue. NASP® would like to thank everyone who reached out to their elected representatives – your voices have been heard!
In one of the most rapid and bipartisan examples of approval, the house of representatives and the senate approved HR 5110, which clarified language allowing use of Federal ESEA funds for training including archery, hunter education and wilderness survival instruction.
From our perspective, the situation illustrated what may be best about America; people from different perspectives – all coming together to remove barriers for students. We believe that this situation demonstrated just how deeply Americans care about the future of conservation and the preservation of the shooting sports for young people.
On behalf of all the 1.3 million active student archers, as well as the millions of students that now have an easier path to be introduced to NASP®, THANK YOU to everyone who helped to develop this resolution!
