Hello, my name is Reagan Trent and this is my second year as a student contributor. I am now a junior with Howell High School in Howell, Michigan and associated with the Howell Archery Team. When I wrote for NASP last year, it opened up so many opportunities and expanded my writing abilities. It connected me with many amazing archers and made for an absolutely awesome experience. Being able to write about archery brought a lot of joy into my heart. I am so excited the time has come yet
again to write for you all. I have recently discovered that I actually started shooting a bow when I was
three years old, not six years old. In early May, my team and I went to nationals and took home six trophies between the regular and ROTC teams. I could not have been more proud to be with Howell Archery.
In the summer, I coached kids from third to twelfth grade at a local sportsmen club, Livingston Conservation & Sports Association in
Brighton (LCSA). In addition, I have also been a student coach for pre-season practice for two years now.
Archery has always been an intense passion of mine, it has grown rapidly since my last submission. Coaching elementary school students has brought a new perspective of archery to my attention. I will never forget what it felt like to pick up a bow for the first time, when your first arrow hits the target, or winning your first tournament. Seeing the new archers experience these things for the first time made me happy that I was a part of those experiences with them. Having the kids run up to me smiling about
their time makes me appreciate that I was given the opportunity to be a part of the coaching side of archery.
As for articles, my goals are to write about my time as a student coach for the elementary teams, what it was like to coach at LCSA, how healthy habits affect your shooting, how to improve your performance, and how to make the most out of your archery years.
For personal archery goals, I would like to finally shoot a 290. I have been so close since freshman year but never reached it in a tournament.I am beyond excited for the opportunity to share my experiences with other archers.
Last year was amazing, let’s make this year just as great!
