My name is Bryleigh McKeithan, and I am a 5th grade student from Louisiana.
Enjoying the outdoors
I enjoy outside things like riding my horse, jumping on the trampoline, and playing soccer. Archery sounded like a lot of fun when my principal announced upcoming tryouts over the intercom in 4th grade.
The beginning
I picked up a bow and arrow for the first time that week of announcements, and I practiced everyday to prepare for tryouts. Some days, I shot over 100 arrows just for fun. I also did a lot of research to learn about shooting techniques and the Genesis bow. I lost a lot of arrows while learning, but eventually I got stronger, my form got better and I made the school team!
Since then, I have had tons of fun competing in NASP tournaments around my state. I also competed in the 2021 Central Louisiana Summer Archery program, which is a series of 4 bullseye tournaments, where I averaged 3rd overall in elementary girls. I practice every week in school with my team and coaches, and also at home, where I shoot in my backyard with my parents. We always try to beat each others score.
Setting goals
My goals for the 2022 season are to compete at the ALAS State Tournament, improve my score to the 260s, and compete in the JOAD program. I also hope to use my voice as a NASP contributor to encourage other young students, especially girls, to give archery a chance.
Good luck to everyone shooting this year! Always remember to have fun and be confident.
