Charlie Ray June – For me, the history helps me understand what it truly means to be an archer. It feels like a part of me is connected in a way. Archery is a fun sport. To find out more, we must go back in time and find out what happened to create this sport.
It was because Ancient Egypt was so advanced that we have archery.
The Ancient Egyptians invented bows and arrows for hunting and warfare. While the actual sport was invented 1583, bows were first introduced in 10,000 BC. The reason why the sport was invented so much later is simply because bows were not used yet recreationally.

Like I mentioned before, archery was originally used for hunting and warfare. This was so archers could attack the enemy from a longer range. Originally, they would have to throw a spear. This needed to be changed because the spear could not go very far because it was directly impacted by their strength. With archery, you have to use strength but it is easier to make the arrow go further by using the same amount of strength that you would with a spear. It also helped with aiming their weaponry.
Archery did not instantly have 7.7 million people shooting. With the decrease in warfare, usage with bows opened up a sport to be made. One of the things that plays a role in making it popular because everyone can play instead of only a select few.
Through archery, it feels part of me is connected to Ancient Egyptians! I love shooting archery because it connects me to the past more than other sports.
All in all, I hope these things better help you understand what you are doing when shooting archery.
