-Adara A. – For some archers, good luck charms are a part of their careers. Most archers start off shooting archery around fourth grade which means good luck charms start off pretty weird.
Personally, my good luck charm is my hair bow. I have grown a collection through the years. The fact that a bow is in my hair is lucky enough for me.
I interviewed my team to see how weird and wacky their good luck charms are. The craziest ones I found are from my closest friends.
- My friend Kaden has some super lucky dinosaur converse that they wear to every torment and most practice. They also have rose quartz and tiger’s eye crystal necklaces they wear for tournaments.
- My friend Maddie used to have some rainbow poop socks she wore throughout elementary school at tournaments. When she got older, and she grew out of her rainbow poop socks. Her new good luck charm is a bow and arrow necklace.
- A girl on our high school team has to chew the same flavor of gum while she shoots.
- Another cool one is from my friend Arden. During Arden’s first year of archery, she shot out a chunk of the coyote 3D target. She keeps the chunk in her bow case for good luck.
- My bestie Averie once shot an arrow so much that the fletching came off. Ever since then every tournament she puts that fletching in her back pocket.
- My other friend Jolie has a special bracelet that is very lucky.
Just because all of these good luck charms work for some people that doesn’t mean you should go to your next tournament wearing dinosaur converse, chewing gum, or tying your hair in a bow. If you wear all of those things, it might make it hard to shoot and you would be quite a sight to see.
The best part of good luck charms, is that every one of them is unique. Do whatever works for you, no matter how weird and wacky it may be. As long as the charm helps you gain the confidence you need to shoot your best.
