Young Archers Take Aim with Their Words in NASP® Student Contributor Program

February 12, 2025 – The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP®) proudly celebrates the fourth year of its Student Contributor Program, an initiative that gives student archers a platform to share their experiences and passion for archery. Through their words, NASP® students, families, and coaches gain a firsthand look at the impact of archery in young lives—straight from the voices of the young archers themselves.

Jeff Rawlinson, Vice President of NASP®, highlights the program’s impact: “The Student Contributor Program is another incredible example of how NASP® engages young people, giving them direct involvement in their program while developing important communication skills. Through this initiative, students learn how to become better storytellers while sharing their NASP® journey and the program’s impact on 1.3 million students each year. We are so proud of these kids!”

Many student contributors discovered archery through their school’s NASP® program, often as part of their physical education curriculum. Regina Diamani, a student contributor, reflects on her introduction to the sport: “My journey into the world of archery began as the simple curiosity of a sixth-grader who wasn’t interested in joining any other sport at my school. Little did I know that this seemingly casual decision would lead to a passion I have no intention of leaving behind.”

For some, archery has been a long-term commitment that has shaped their personal growth. Sophie Huff, another student contributor, shares: “I’m so excited to share my story with archers everywhere. I’ve been shooting for eight years now. Archery has had a major impact on my life, helping me develop everything from discipline to building new friendships.”

Lydia Windell, a second-year contributor, emphasizes how archery has broadened her horizons: “Through archery, I’ve had the opportunity to travel, compete in tournaments, and create unforgettable memories with my teammates. From sightseeing to meeting archers from around the world, I’ve had so many amazing experiences because of archery.”

This year, 18 NASP® student archers from across the United States were selected as contributors, ranging from 6th to 12th grade and representing both public and homeschool students. These young writers were chosen through an application process based on their enthusiasm for archery and their desire to share their experiences.

For many of these students, archery is more than a sport—it’s a lifelong passion. Ava Castrogiovanni, student contributor, puts it simply: “Archery means the world to me, and I have a feeling that isn’t going to change for a long time.”

Ellen Chaney expands on that thought: “NASP® means many things to different people. Some archers think it’s about getting a high score, while others see it as becoming a perfect shooter. To me, NASP® is about concentration, self-improvement, teamwork, setting goals, and doing your best. These skills are not only important in archery but also in life.”
